WASHINGTON - Government of President of the United States (U.S.), Barack Obama is trying to find the right moment to bring the Palestinians and Israelis to the negotiating table. But both countries seem to ignore the U.S. on peace efforts in the Middle East.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton had a meeting with senior Israeli and Palestinian officials. Clinton realized, the status of non-member observer state obtained Palestinians from the United Nations (UN), is considered as an obstacle to peace talks.
The U.S. government is already doing business over the last two years to stop the Palestinian efforts at the UN. They worry will trigger the anger of Israel and led direct negotiations between the two countries could not be held.
"We have assured the Palestinians that direct negotiations with Israel, is the only way to get the two-state solution that they deserve," Clinton said, as quoted by the Associated Press, Sunday (12/02/2012).
"America is basically support the goal of establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel and live in peace. But the UN decision, it will not make the Palestinians closer (to peace). Fact, this poses new challenges for the United Nations and Israel," he added.
New status for Palestine at the United Nations by the United States will not affect anything. But that could change the focus of the development of the Palestinian and Israeli talks, where a peace treaty so unattainable.
On the other hand, Clinton urged Israel to get near the moderates in Palestine. According to him, Israel should be able to approach those who are committed to peace.
Over the last four years, the Obama administration is hardly showed any breakthrough in Middle East peace mediation. While the peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel, continued to end in failure. Although 2010 ago, Obama managed to bring them to conduct indirect negotiations after the freezing of relations between the two countries.
