U.S. Does not Want Israel Build Settlements

RAMALLAH - The leader of Jordan's King Abdullah II, visited the West Bank to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The visit was carried out in the midst of controversy over Israel's settlement construction in Palestinian territory.

Palestinian officials who do not want to be named said that in the visit, King Abdullah had delivered a message from the United States (U.S.) to Abbas. The message assured Abbas that the U.S. will not let Israel carry out the plan of the controversial settlement.

The U.S. promised to pressure Israel to cancel the plan. But the U.S. wants the Palestinians did not participate in the organizations supervised by the United Nations (UN). Similarly, Xinhua reported on Friday (07/12/2012).

Last November the Palestinians managed to get the status of a non-member observer state at the UN. The success of the Palestinians that is triggered Israel to respond with plans to build settlements in the West Bank.

The U.S. also promised they would not impose sanctions against the Palestinians. Previously the U.S. threatened to stop the flow of funds to the Palestinians if they continued intention status granted membership in the United Nations.

King Abdullah also called on Abbas to think of different ways to allow the Palestinian peace negotiations with Israel can be resumed. Peace talks between the two warring parties had been stalled since 2010.

One of the issues that block peace talks among them, which is often, builds the Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Though the area was prepared as an area that will be in the sovereignty of an independent Palestinian territories. (Faj)
