Rooney himself suffered an injury to his knee during practice on Christmas Day and had to miss four games. Even so, Ferguson remains hopeful the 26-year player could defend United in order to maintain the positive trend of the Red Devils a seven-point lead over their nearest rivals, Manchester City.
"I hope Rooney is actually practiced today, in which case he would not have waited so long," said Fergie, as reported by Sports & Stars on Saturday (01/12/2013).
"I do not think it was a big injury, but it will help him to fight the injury is fairly easy so if we start today Rooney could play in Wednesday's game," said 71-year coach.
In the absence of United's Rooney up front will be filled with Robin Van Persie and Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez. Duet seen this compact will be Fergie weapon in defense bombard Martin Skrtel et al.
