Will the Syrian opposition Appoints New President

DAMASCUS - The opposition Syrian reportedly will appoint a new president in Istanbul, Turkey. The plan, the appointment was made at a meeting of high-ranking opposition against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Syria's opposition coalition also hopes to increase the number of its members, especially by adding factions fighting inside Syria. The meeting in Istanbul will also formulate a government that will represent all the people of Syria.

Syrian opposition coalition currently has 62 members of the group. Three opposition figures such as George Sabra, Burhan Ghalioun and Louay Safi at least have a chance to be elected president of the coalition. So reported the Associated Press on Saturday (18/05/2013).

In addition to choosing a new president, the meeting will also discuss the fate of Prime Minister of Syria while Ghassam Hitto. Has long been known, Hitto undesirable by some countries to help Syria, like Saudi Arabia.

Hitto will be officially introduced at the names of his cabinet. But for the interior minister and the minister of defense has not been determined by the Military Council Rated (SMC), in accordance with its agreement with the opposition.

However, SMC wants it control approximately 50 percent of the seats in the coalition. This complicates negotiations among coalition members who do not want to hand over power to the military.

The meeting in Istanbul was made after Secretary of State United States (U.S.), John Kerry and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met in Moscow, May 7. The meeting aimed to discuss peace in Syria. (Faj)
