WARSAW - The new method analyzes related hair and eye color of modern forensic samples, can be used by researchers to identify our ancestors. The team of researchers from Poland and the Netherlands, developed a system for forensic analysis and HIrisPlex involving human DNA.
Reported Heritagedaily, Monday (01/14/2013), a recent study published in the journal Investigative Genetics, explains HIrisPlex DNA analysis system that can reconstruct the hair and eye color and teeth until the age of 800 years. This study also included important figures from Poland, Wladyslaw Sikorski (1881-1943).
Based on these studies, it was revealed late Wladyslaw has blue eyes and blond hair. The research team claims the system is quite robust and successful work on the damaged samples (human remains such as teeth and bone).
The system saw 24 polymorphisms in DNA, which can be used to predict the color of eyes and hair. Wojciech Branicki Researchers from the Institute of Forensic Research explained that the system could be used to solve the historical controversies.
The system can show a person's hair and eye color, if the party concerned can not be identified due to the loss of evidence such as photographs or color fading vital records are missing. "HIrisPlex able to confirm that General Wladyslaw Sikorski, who died in a plane crash in 1943 have blue eyes and blond hair," said Wojciech.
He further said, some research samples from prisoners in World War II. "In this case, HIrisPlex helps to put the physical features of other DNA evidence," he concluded.
For human samples in the middle ages, in which the DNA is even more broken, the system is still able to predict the eye and hair color. Researchers have identified a mysterious woman who is buried in the basement Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec.
Researchers believe that the mysterious woman living in the age 12-14. Based on the analysis, the woman has dark blond or brown hair and brown eyes. (FMH)
