"China Must Agree to Face the Philippines"

MANILA - Members of Congress of the United States (U.S.), Ed Royce emphasized that China had agreed to face the Philippines in the Board of Arbitration of the United Nations (UN). It was intended to ease tensions over the disputed South China Sea.

Last week, the Philippines took legal action to challenge China's claim over the territory in the South China Sea. However, China has not responded to the challenge from the Philippines.

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Ma Keqing just confirmed that his country will not give up the disputed territory.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. Congress Ed Royce immediately held a meeting with Philippine officials. Royce announced the return, the U.S. did not defend one piihak hostile territory in dispute.

But Royce actually support the Philippines who want to bring the issue to the international level.

"Very good when China joined the process, so we can move forward under international law," said the politician from California was quoted as saying by the Associated Press, Tuesday (01/29/2013).

"We want to relieve stress, we want to approach this is done diplomatically because we do not want a crisis that would interfere with trade or create uncertainty," he said.

Royce led six U.S. delegation that will meet with Philippine President Benigno Aquino. As is known, the United States began increasing its military presence in the Asia-Pacific region after completing the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

So far, the South China Sea conflict looks increasingly strained. Chinese paramilitary ships had entered into a confrontation with a ship called the Philippines and China claims as uncontested actions.

The international community started to worry, it will trigger a territorial dispute armed conflict in Asia. Hence, the Philippines decided to resolve this issue at the international level. (AUL)
