Iran: Attack Syria Means Attack Us!

DUBAI - Iran reiterated its support for the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is still in power in Syria. Iran insists other countries to attack Syria as well be attacking Iran.

"Syria has a very important role in the region. Hence the attack on Syria is tantamount to attack on Iran, "said one Iranian official, Ali Akbar Velayati, was quoted as saying by Reuters on Saturday (26/01/2013).

Last September, the Iranian military had declared that his country would help Syria if the United States (U.S.) and its allies decide to intervene militarily in the Arab Countries.

In 2006, Iran and Syria had agreed on a defense pact. However, it is unknown whether the defense pact including helping allies if attacked by foreigners.

Assad's regime came from the Announcements that are derived from Shia. Besides Iran, the Assad regime in Syria is also getting support from Hezbollah in Lebanon which is also the same wing.

So far, Iran demanded the West not to interfere the ongoing conflict in Syria because it is Syria's internal affairs alone. Iran has accused the west of providing military aid to the opposition fighters who intend to overthrow Assad. (Faj)
