YANGON - Myanmar's government has denied reports that the military used chemical weapons to attack the rebel Kachin. Rebuttal came after the rebels claimed they were attacked using chemical weapons by the Myanmar military.
"Our military never use the chemical weapons, we also have no intention to use it. I think the rebels have falsely accuse us, "said Hye Tut, a spokesman for the Government of Myanmar.
Currently, the military pounded the northern region of Myanmar is Myanmar which is the basis Kachin rebel resistance. The conflict between the two sides erupted after the Myanmar government has accused the rebels attacked a military convoy Myanmar last December.
Kachin rebels claimed their position getting squeezed because the Myanmar military constantly attacking them. More than hundreds of thousands of people living in Kachin state has now attempted to avoid displaced by the fighting.
"It has been three days the Myanmar military to attack us with chemical weapons, the result of vital bases we successfully controlled by them," says Lum Dau, Kachin rebel spokesman, told AFP on Thursday (10/01/2013).
Lun Dau said many soldiers who became unconscious because of a chemical weapons attack. In the conflict in 2011, the Kachin rebels had also accused Myanmar's military of using chemical weapons, but the allegations Sangata hard to be verified.
Myanmar is currently led by President Thein Sein, who is touted as a reformist leader. Thein Sein last year failed to agree on a ceasefire agreement with most of the rebel groups in Myanmar but failed to make a similar deal with Kachin rebels.
Previous Thein Sein has asked the Myanmar military to defuse the showdown with Kachin rebels. But the appeal was ignored by the military which previously had many years in the regime of Myanmar's ruling military junta.
