WASHINGTON - New research reveals that chimpanzees have a similar one with human nature. Yerkes National Primate Researcher of the Research Centre at Emory University, Atlanta, found that these primates have a sense of fairness or justice like human nature.
Reported by the Telegraph, Tuesday (01/15/2013), this is the first characteristic of chimpanzees have been identified in relation to the closest human relationships. This research tries to unravel the evolutionary history of the primates.
Researchers used the game "justice" in 20 children aged two to seven years. Researchers also involves six adult chimpanzees and found that the response is exactly the mammals made by the children.
"We use the Ultimatum Game, because this is the gold standard for determining the human sense of justice," said Darby Proctor from Yerkes National Primate Research at Emory University, Atlanta.
He said, in the game, one individual must propose the distribution of a gift to another individual. Then, the individual must accept the proposition (proposal) before they can get a prize.
"People usually offer generous portions, like 50 percent of gifts to their partners. This is what we actually recorded in our study with chimpanzees," he explained.
Two sets of experiments involving American children and chimpanzees Serika is based on a game in which prizes can be shared between the player and partner. The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences showed that both chimpanzees and children can share the prize equally. (FMH)
