VALUE - Malaysia's National Fatwa Council issued a fatwa which is quite surprising. They issued a fatwa stating demonstrations to oust the government was unlawful.
Fatwa was issued after a few days earlier the National Fatwa Council issued a fatwa ruling that considers unlawful acts of resistance and rebellion against the country's leaders. It also includes protest through unauthorized channels.
"Any form of protest that could undermine unity among the citizens, was incompatible with Islam," said the National Fatwa Council chairman Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Abdul Shukor, as quoted by Sinar Daily, Wednesday (22/05/2013).
"(Protest or dissent) is strictly prohibited. Fatwa Council issued a fatwa that judge had forbidden such protests Bersih 2.0 protest. So it should not happen again," he added.
In July 2011, the council declared Bersih 2.0 illegal protest. In fact, the protest was aimed at calling for a free and fair election. Now a similar fatwa was issued to protest plans Net 3.0 is scheduled to take place this month at Dataran Merdeka.
Rejection of protests led by the opposition coalition Pakatan people, was expressed by former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad. Mahathir patronizing those who insist re-election after election defeat in May 5. (Faj)
