IPB Prepares Students to Go International

The Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) applies special regulations to include its students in international research seminars. The special regulation is the idea that research activities must come from and be carried out by students themselves.

"Students who take part in International seminars such as TRI-U 2012 must submit the results of their own research, they should not just be a literature study," said Yonny Koesmaryono, Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs at the 2012 TRI-U press conference in the Rector 2 Meeting Room, Dramaga, Bogor.

He added, the results of the research must be truly their work. This is done so that students confidently convey the results of their research because they understand by doing it directly. "In question and answer, they will be better prepared and can explain in detail," Yonny said.

In addition, he added, they would be able to discuss directly with higher academic levels, to discuss basic knowledge. According to him, this regulation was enacted so that students who presented before international audiences mastered their research based on what they had done.

"Of course besides that it will be chosen based on English language skills and behavior that is not inferior but also not arrogant," he said.

Head of the IPB's International Sub-Directoral Program, Muhammad Agil, said that with this regulation it would improve the ability of students to eventually increase the level of Indonesian education as well. "People who doubt education in Indonesia can be equal to foreign countries, they will change their minds," he said. However, he added, as long as it is in Asia, Indonesian students can certainly compete.
