Strengthening character education is the solution to achieving effective education in the Leading, Outermost, and Disadvantaged (3T) regions in Indonesia. The method used is through a cultural approach to society. This is because each region has its own characteristics
Language and mention of terms can be adapted to those used daily. Implementation in the field is in the form of traditional games and activities commonly carried out by local communities.
"In the school environment in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, there is a consensus meeting method called kulababong. It is a system of deliberation that must be a culture at school," explained analyst of Policy Education at the Center for Analysis and Synchronization Policy (PASKA), Doni Koesoema A when interviewed after the launch of the book Practical Guide to Strengthening Character Education at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Jakarta, written Wednesday, January 23, 2019.
When there are problematic class or class meetings, students must gather. Even so, if there is an activity for each class and school, it must go through collective discussion.
Doni said that the values of strengthening character education could be adopted from the habits of the community. In some regions, there is a culture of eating together in one container.
"I do not know what the name (term) is. But they are used to eating together. Well, that is finally taught in school. There is a value of togetherness. Eating in the same place. Feeling the same produce," Doni explained.
