Washington D.C. - The legendary band Metallica sent donations worth USD 1 million or equivalent to Rp 14.5 billion to 10 campuses in the United States. (USD 1 = Rp. 14,580). The donation aims to improve career programs and technical education certificates at community colleges (campuses offering diplomas).
Forbes reported, the band made a donation through a foundation called All Within My Hands (like their song on the album St. Anger). The foundation was only established in February and one of the objectives was to strengthen the education sector with the Metallica Scholars Initiative program
"10 campuses across the country will get USD 100,000 (IDR 1.4 billion) to support the training of more than 1,000 students to enter the American workforce. These students will be the first group of Metallica Scholars," wrote the statement the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
The Metallica Foundation partners with AACC which represents 1,103 community colleges. Metallica wants to influence the importance of career education and engineering.
"The aim of the Metallica Scholars Initiative is to improve career opportunities for community college students on the job," said Dr. Edward Hank, executive director of the foundation All Within My Hands.
Those who want to get this scholarship need to go through a selective application process. The program is directed at providing skills training for students for relevant work, as well as in order to help cities that support Metallica during their tour.
